On Friday December 12, 1980, Notice of the Final Determination for Federal Acknowledgment of Jamestown Clallam as an Indian Tribe was published in the Federal Register.

Anyone wanting to oppose this acknowledgment was given 60 days to do so. If no comments are received, “The determination is final and will become effective on February 10, 1981 unless the Secretary of the Interior requests the determination be reconsidered pursuant to 25 CFR 54.10.”

Tribal Chair W. Ron Allen congratulates attorney Jeff Schuster upon the attainment of federal recognition for the Tribe, and the purchase of property in Blyn in 1981.

Jamestown was the second Tribe in the Nation to be recognized or acknowledged under the new regulations. This is the basis for the observance of Jamestown Federal Recognition Day on February 10 of each year.

The Tribe then began to formalize its government-to-government relationship with the United States, and to rebuild its land base.
